This document contains the output of a conference and action planning workshop that place in Algiers over five days in early May 2007, the therme of the event was urban renewal with a focus on sustainable development. 62 participants attended the event from 13 countries in the framework of the URDN , SPONSORD AND SUPPORTED BY THE Ecole polytechnique d’architecture et d’urbanisme of Algiers.Academics rofessionals and government officials from architecture, planning and including the private development sector presented papers and discussed both the technical and institutional issues as to how planning systems and the redevelopment process can be more effective in addressing sustainability issues ranging from the supply of resources, through urban design to concern with appropriate responses to climatic and geographical considerations.
